McAlister's Deli Game Summary - Week 1

Team 4 – 57
Team 1 – 48

Indianapolis – Team 4 used a 14-0 run midway through the 2nd half to build a lead they would never relinquish. Up by 3 points at 43-40, Eric Cole missed a layup that would have put Team 1 up by 5 points with 7 minutes left. Instead Team 4 took the rebound and ran off 14 straight points behind 4 consecutive 3-pointers by Kyle Krol and Michael Weisberg.

“That was definitely a turning point in the game”, said Edmound Elzy. “If we go up by 5 points there, it’s a whole different ball game”.

Team 1 was without one of their starters, Troy Brokl. He missed the game due to his day time job responsibilities. Even though Edmound Elzy scored 22 points, had 12 rebounds and dished out 3 assists, he fell to 0-5 all time on Opening Night games.

Michael Weisberg, leading candidate for Rookie of the Year, scored 20 points on 4-7 shooting from behind the arc. "Go ahead and start engraving my name on the trophy, I got this ROY locked up", said Weisberg.

After the game, Elzy went about his annual opening night tradition of complaining about how much he gets fouled.

Rumors spread that Elzy was heard shouting, "this team is going to ruin my legacy".

Team 1 plays team 3 tomorrow afternoon.

Team 3 – 48
Team 2 – 36

Indianapolis – There was a rumor that Richie Smith was upset that he dropped to #3 overall in the PFOL Draft last week. Smith has been to 3 out of the 4 PFOL Finals, has won 2 rings and is arguably the best player in the league. He was passed up by two teams before landing with Eric Flatt's Team 3. On Wednesday Smith sent a statement to one of those teams as he nailed three 3-pointers in a row late in the 2nd half to extend Team 3’s lead to 12 points in only a matter of seconds.

"I guess rings and playoff games played don't matter when deciding who should be the number #1 pick" said Smith.

Chemistry was lacking with Team 2 as they struggled to find an offensive rhythm and got killed on the boards by a 39-22 margin.

"They are a good rebounding team and we are a poor rebounding team. Not a good combination", said Alan Mowrey.

We'll get it together, I'm not worried. You don't have to be playing your best ball at the start of the season. You have to be playing your best ball at the end of the season", said Team 1's Doug Morgan, who strangely wasn't even at the game on Wednesday.

Team 3 plays Team 5 tomorrow while Team 2 has an off day.
