PFOL 7 - Week 7 recap

Indianapolis –

Before today’s game, if you would have told anyone on Team 2 that Edmound Elzy would only score 4 points and shoot 13% for the game, they all would have asked, “so does that mean we win by 40 or 50 points?”

Team 1 overcame a dreadful shooting night from Edmound Elzy to upset the best team in the league, Team 2, 52-40.  That is Team 1’s 3rd win in a row and they are showing signs of life heading into the playoffs after starting the season 0-4.

Edmound Elzy made up for his poor shooting by dishing out 10 assists; most of them going to Andrew “Dirk” Boehner who shot the lights out in the first half.  “Rob Laycock can’t guard me!  It’s an insult to have him cover me!  I’m Dirk Boehner!”, said Andrew.

Team 3 did make it into the record books as Dean Heaviland threw the league’s first alley-oop to Adam Branch.  It was the first play after the tip off.

In the 2nd game, Edmound Elzy hit a deep 3 pointer that put the game away for Team 1, as they beat Team 4, 54-46.  Nathan Burger led all scorers with 19 points on 56% shooting.   Team 2 improved to 2-4 on the season while Team 3 dropped to 3 and 3.

PFOL 7 - Week 5 recap

Indianapolis -  Despite having a better shooting percentage and out-rebounding Team 4, Team 2 suffered it's first loss of the season, 46-40.  Charlie Henry hit a 3 pointer with less than a minute left to put Team 4 up 5.   The difference in the game was clearly the long ball.  Team 4 connected on six 3-point field goals while Team 2 went 0 for 6.

Richie Smith and Drew Franklin missed the game.  Smith's absence was felt in the 2nd half Team 4 went to a packed in zone defense to stop the interior scoring.

In the 2nd game, Team 1 used a 27-4 run to secure them their first victory of the season 54-46.   Team 3 went up 20-10 with 7 minutes left in the first half.  Team 3 then went cold from the field and Elzy and Boehner caught fire. Team 3 only scored 16 points the rest of the game shooting 20% for the game which included going 0-22 from behind the Arc.

"I haven't seen that many missed 3-pointers in a row since Jake Vernon was in the league", said Edmound Elzy.

Elzy locked up player of the week honors by dropping 13 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists.

PFOL 7 - Week 4 recap

Indianapolis - All thoughts on Friday were not on the outcome of the PFOL games.  Everyone was concerned about the well-being of PFOL player Chris Melby who was carried off the court on a stretcher and taken to the emergency room after he collided with another player as he went in for a rebound.   Melby was struck with an elbow in the neck and collapsed in the first half of the first game.  Melby immediately who laid face down was unable to move his arms of legs. He was taken to Methodist Hospital where it was determined that he suffered a seperated vertebrae which caused severe swelling between the separated discs. Surgery has been suggested but the doctors will wait and see how Melby progresses over the next 48 hours.

Despite the injury to Melby, the PFOL decided to continue the games.

Team 2 improved to 4-0, by dropping Team 1, 46-35.  Mowrey led the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds and Tamba Samba had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Edmound Elzy had one of the worst shooting performance of his career as he shot 2 of 19 from the field and was held to just 5 points.  Elzy was able to grab 9 rebounds and  dish out 7 assists.

In the 2nd game of the day, Team 4 beat Team 3, 54-48 despite losing Kyle Krol early in the game to an eye injury.  Doug Morgan scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Team 4 and recently signed free agent Dave Hanley scored 14 points in his PFOL debut.

Kyle Krol, was evaluated by an eye doctor and is rumored to have to wear an eye patch for the next few weeks.

PFOL 7 - Week 3 recap

Indianapolis –

Team 2 improved to 3-0 on the season as they ran all over Team 3 in a 47-39 victory.  Team 2 bolted out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back.  Team 2 was lead by Tamba Samba’s double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds) and Alan Mowrey’s 14 points and 7 rebounds.

Team 3 was led by Adam Branch’s 14 points and 9 rebounds.  Branch was the only player to shoot over 29% from the field.

“We are a defensive juggernaut.  We play smash mouth basketball.  I mean, Rob Laycock dove after the ball during the opening tip.  I’ve never seen that happen in my life”, said Alan Mowrey.

Laycock’s stats were adjusted as he was credited with a block shot, but after further review it was determined that he actually blocked a shot attempt by his own player, Alan Mowrey.

Joe English was held scoreless. The effects of over-exposure to the sun during his cruise last week was evident by his play on the court and his sunburnt face.

In the 2nd game, Team 4 got their first victory of the season as they beat Team 1, 65-58.  Team 4 used a balance scoring attack by Glaser, Krol and Trott.  Krol filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, 10 rebounds and  6 assists.  He shot 44% from the field and played excellent defense.  Kyle Krol played like the top tier player that he is known to be.  "He just made everyone around him better, that's what great players do", said teammate Doug Morgan. (Editors note: this over-the-top gushing about Kyle Krol is not in direct response to his tantrum he threw about the harsh comments made about him in Week 2's recap).

Despite dropping to 0-3, Team 1 got solid performances from Greg Smith 26 points and 13 rebounds and Nathan Burger 18 points and 9 rebounds.  Andrew Boehner missed the game with Flu-Like symptoms or what Beohner calls"feeling yucky".

"I don't care about the regular season.  Everyone makes the playoffs, so there is no reason to worry about the regular season.  Playoffs is when the real season starts", said Elzy.

Commissioner Mowrey expressed concerns regarding Elzy's comments.  "That kind of mentality is bad for the league and bad for fans.  Since we don't have any fans yet, I won't worry about it.  But when we do start getting fans, Elzy is going to have to start putting out more of an effort in the regular season for our paying fans".

PFOL 7 - Week 2 recap

Indianapolis - Edmound Elzy found himself with the ball down 1 with 19 seconds left and a chance to win the game.  Elzy then did something that no one in the gym ever thought he would do - he passed.  He causally swung the ball to Brian Brown, who look surprised more than anyone.  Brown then dumped the ball down to Burger who missed a turn around jumper with 7 seconds left.

"I thought something was wrong, I would have bet my life that Elzy was going to take shot no matter how many people were guarding him.

Elzy's Team 1 dropped to 0-2 on the season, losing the game 48-46.  Elzy ended the game with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

Team 3 was lead by Adam Branch's 16 and Eric Cole's 14.  "We are 2-0 and we haven't even had a our best player yet", said Cole.  Vance Catlin missed the first two games as he is travelling with the other basketball team that plays at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

In the 2nd game of the day, Team 1 improved to 2-0 behind Alan Mowrey's 24 points and 14 rebounds and Richie Smith's 24 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists as they easily beat Team 4, 66-50.

The yearly tradition of Kyle Krol complaining how his team is no good went off without a hitch.  "Yeah, all of our crappy players is the reason we are 0-2.  It has nothing to do with Kyle being 1-16 from 3 point range this season", said a player who asked to remain anonymous.

Krol ended the game with 9 points on 4 of 13 shooting.  He did manage to grab 11 rebounds.
