PFOL 7 - Week 1 Recap

Indianapolis - The highly anticipated start of the PFOL 7 season finally came on Thursday. Many new faces dawned the PFOL court for the first time along with many familiar faces. Rookie Adam Branch stepped on the court and immediately let the entire league know that they will have to keep their eyes open as he cleared out the lane with a strong pivot and sharp elbows.

Edmound Elzy, fresh off his championship run in PFOL 6 regained his usual opening night form as his team lost to Team 2 (Elzy is 0-7 on Opening Night).

Alan Mowrey, the PFOL’s leader for most consecutive regular season games played (42) unveiled a new look game as he attempted all of his shots from the inside the paint. This marks the first time in his career that he did not attempt a badly contested 3-point shot.

Team 2, which features the big 3 of Richie Smith, Tamba Samba and Alan Mowrey cruised to an easy win over the Elzy led Team 1, 59-43. Team 1 set a PFOL record by recording only 3 assists in the game. Elzy had a game high 21 points on 8 for 21 shooting however, his 8 turnovers killed all hopes of an upset win.

Andrew Boehner had a dismal 3 points and caught heat from Captain Edmound Elzy. “I can’t do this %&* by myself. Someone better start hitting some shots.

Team 2 was led by Mowrey’s 20 points and 9 rebounds. Richie Smith dropped in 16 and Tamba Samba chipped in with 13.

In the 2nd game of the day, Eric Cole exploded for a career high 26 points on an impressive 13 for 18 shooting as his Team 3 dismantled Team 4, 69-46.

An early candidate for most improved player, Dean Heaviland filled up the stat sheet as he recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Adam Branch scored 18 points including an amazing rim rattling dunk in the first half.

Team 4 who was playing without 3 of their players, shot just 2-18 from behind the arc. Krol’s 0-10 from 3-point range capped off a 9-27 a dreadful shooting performance.

One the few highlights for Team 4 saw Doug Morgan grab a career high 13 rebounds. “When Krol and Glaser miss that many times, there are a lot of rebounds to be had”, said Morgan.
