McAlister's Deli Game Summary - PFOL 5 - Week 5

Team 3 - 59
Team 1 – 54

Indianapolis – Team 3 learned earlier this week that Dave Neff would be retiring from PFOL. He will be taking his “talents to Exact Target”. Upon hearing the news, Team 3’s General Manager quickly picked up a free agent and signed him to a 1-game contract. Frank Vogel, the Indiana Pacers Head Coach, made his PFOL debut on Tuesday and immediately made his presence felt. Vogel filled up the stat sheet as he scored 6 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. He also was active on the defensive end as he nabbed Defensive Player of the Week honors by tallying 3 steals, 1 block and several deflections all while holding Chris Melby scoreless for only the 16th time in his career.

Vogel’s presence helped hold off a furious comeback attempt by Team 1 led by back to back 3 pointers by Troy Brokl. Team 1 was playing without star forward Edmound Elzy who missed his 2nd straight game. Edmound is listed as day to day due to a case of “Having something better to do”.

“Even though we lost 2 games in a row, I think it shows that we don’t need Elzy to compete in this league”, said Dustin Pugh

In the end Team 1’s comeback fell short as they lost 59-54 and dropped to 2-3 on the season.

Michael Glaser scored a game high 24 points while guard Eric Cole scored a career high 21 points in the loss

Team 5 – 46
Team 4 – 44

Indianapolis – By starting off the season 0-2 and facing the league’s best team (Team 4) things were not looking good for Team 5. That all changed as Jason McGuinness banked home a wild shot at the buzzer to give his team a shocking 46-44 win over Team 4 Tuesday afternoon.

“I have been practicing that shot my whole life. I can’t tell you how many weird looks I’ve gotten when I am at NIFS practicing a running off balanced flip shot from my hip late at night. Most of the time it flies over the backboard but today it went in”, said Jason McGuiness.

Team 4 was left shell shocked as their hope of an undefeated season get got snagged from beneath them. “I want to see a replay, I don’t think he got it off in time”, said Michael Weisberg.

McGuinness carried his team all the way until the final buzzer as he scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

“Brian Brown and Joe English were huge down the stretch, and Greg Smith locked up the middle. This is why I drafted veteran players. Players that have been here before”, said Brian Stutzman.
