Patriot League Bombers win PFOL 3 Championship

The Patriot League Bombers came into Season 3 of PFOL as the early preseason favorites to win the PFOL Championship. They proved that they were the best team in the league by sweeping Forecasted Showers 2-0 in the PFOL Finals on Wednesday at Conseco Feildhouse. Wednesday's 61-49 victory capped an impressive rookie season by John Griffin, Graham Nueburger and Rob Laycock. Griffin the regular season MVP took home the Finals MVP honors as he averaged 21.5 points per game and 6 rebounds. Nubeurger was the team's most versatile player as he contributed in all aspects of the game. He led the team in rebounds, assists and steals in the finals. Rob Laycock proved to be a tough nose defender and solid role player.

Forecasted Showers had several huge runs in the game as they tried to keep up with the fast paced tempo of the game. Forecasted Showers started the 2nd half with a 9-0 run to take a 2 point lead before PLB regained the lead and extended their lead back up to double digits. PLB held off another late 2ND half 13-2 run in which Edmound Elzy hit three 3 pointers in a row. PLB closed out the game with some timely shooting from Griffin.

"Let's get one thing straight, the only reason we only won by 12 points is because we wanted to keep the game close for entertainment purposes. Plus we didn't have Stutzman and Neff, if we would have had them we could have won by 30", said Rob Laycock.

Edmound Elzy led all scores with 28 points and Eric Flatt grabbed 20 rebounds to go along with 8 points. This game undoubtedly marks the end of the Elzy and Flatt's tenure together. Both have made it very clear that they plan to part ways this off season. “I felt I was underutilized for the past 3 years, I plan on taking my talents to any other team but this one", said Flatt.

“Good luck, maybe now he’s realize how good he had it”, said Elzy.
