PFOL 3 Season Preview

Tomorrow tips off season 3 of PFOL. All of the teams have selected their names for this season and the rosters have been finalized. The latest addition saw the Patriot League Bombers acquiring rookie free agent Rob Laycock. Scouts have compared Laycock to Rajon Rondo without the jump shot or passing ability.

Team 1 is now 3-Peat
Team 2 is now Patriot League Bombers
Team 3 is now Forecasted Showers
Team 4 is now Baston Jacks

3-Peat (Prediction 4-5)
3-Peat returns three starters from last year’s championship team and should be a well balanced team with the shooting and leadership of Richie Smith, the rebounding and defense of Vance Catlin to go along with the athletic play of Kyle Krol. Their biggest weakness will be team chemistry as Jake Vernon has already informed Alex Montagano and Kyle Krol that they are role players and they are never to shoot the ball.

Patriot League Bombers (Prediction 6-3)
This team is loaded with talent. John Griffin, a leading candidate for Rookie of Year will bring his deadly outside shooting and team up with a host of athletes including fellow rookie Graham Nueburger, Dave Neff and Brian Stutzman. Veterans Greg Smith and Thorpe Miller will look to bring some proven leadership to a very young but powerful team. “When all the dust settles people will look at this team the same way they look at the Miami Heat”, said Dave Neff.

Forecasted Showers (Prediction 3-6)
Forecasted Showers features a very hungry and determined Edmound Elzy (aka Tracy McGrady). Despite being one of the best players in PFOL history, Elzy’s teams have underachieved in the playoffs. This year they add some shooting and quickness as Bob Herzog and Jason Rost look remove the black cloud that hangs over this franchise. Still experts doubt that this team will be anything more than a one-and-done team in the playoffs. One team owner who wished to remain anonymous even questioned their team name. “Forecasted Showers? Are you serious? Who are their shooters? I only count two -Elzy and Herzog. A better name would have been Scattered Showers”.

Baston Jacks (Prediction 5-4)
If healthy and in shape, this team might be favored to win the title. Teaming up one of the league's better players in Pat Sullivan with Alan Mowrey, Jason McGuinness and Troy Brokl was one of the better off season moves by Baston Jacks’ GM and Owner, Alan Mowrey. Add to that the physical play of Sam Elmore and Chris Melby this team will be hard to beat. A huge question mark for the Baston Jacks will be if Andrew Boehner can return from an injury-ridden PFOL 2 season and if Peter Dinwiddie can get a hall pass from David Morway more than 2 times this season. If they have a healthy Boehner and Dinwiddie is able to play, this team will be a force. “We can play any style you want. We can run, we can slow it down, and we can bang, we can shoot” said Troy Brokl.

Indianapolis – Teams for the third season of PFOL have been approved by the Board of Governors. PFOL 3 will feature four teams when the league tip offs on October 8th. Several new players will take the court this season as rookies John Griffin (Bucknell University) and Graham Neuburger (Santa Clara) team up with some other PFOL 3 veterans.

“This is the most talent PFOL has ever had”, said Edmound Elzy. “All four teams have a strong starting five”.

Three members of the PFOL 2 Champion Deemer’s Dream Team are teamed up again for this season. Riche Smith, Vance Catlin and Jake Vernon look to win a second championship in a row. Vernon is confident going into the season, “I carried my PFOL 1 team, I carried my PFOL 2 team and I will carry my PFOL 3 team to another championship”. When asked to comment on Vernon’s statement, Vance Catlin simply let out a huge sigh and walked away.

The full PFOL 3 scheduled will be released next week.

PFOL 3 Set to Tip Off Oct 8th

Season 3 of PFOL is scheduled to tip off on October 8th. All games will be played midday at Conseco Feildhouse.

Season 3 will have some familiar faces returning to the hardwood. Some of those include:

Edmound Elzy, aka "Tracy McGrady". Elzy is looking to get his first playoff win of his career.

Jake Vernon returns for a 3rd season and is anxious to see who's coat tales he can ride to a possible 3rd championship.

Greg Smith returns to PFOL after a brief stint oversees.

Dave Neff returns despite losing his Ball State Buddy Marcus Hall to free-agency

Season 3 will also see an influx of rookie talent including two Division 1 athletes. John Griffin (Bucknell) and Graham Neuburger (Santa Clara) will be joining the PFOL. Their eligibility will be complete once they pass their mandatory rookie class: "How to cope and accept bad calls by Jake Vernon".

McAlister's Deli Game Summary: Deemer's Dream Team Wins PFOL 2

Deemer's Dream Team won the PFOL 2 Championship last Monday with a 62-38 victory over Brute Force. It is the second championship for Vance Catlin, Jake Vernon and Zach Bonvillian. Deemer's Dream Team routed Brute Force who were missing three of thier key players. Jhared Simpson (job relocation) Jon Rangel (job ended) and Andrew Boehner (flu like symptoms) all missed the game. "We knew without those three players we were in for a long night" said Alan Mowrey. Brute Force played with only 5 players while Deemer's Dream Team had a full roster. "Not taking anything away from their win, they beat us pretty handily, but it would be interesting to play them with our full squad - I think it would be a good game", said Mowrey.

Richie Smith scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds as he won Finals MVP. Vance Catlin chipped in 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.

PFOL 3 is scheduled to tip off on Oct 8th.

Rumors of a Brute Force protest

Indianapolis - A video from a undisclosed source has surfaced on the Internet. The video is part of a longer clip put together by the Brute Force video department showing the phantom foul calls by Deemer's Dream Team player Jake Vernon. The clip show a horrible call in which Vernon shoots the ball and after the ball clangs off the rim calls a foul. The video clearly shows that the defender never touched him while he was shooting.

League commissioner Alan Mowrey said, "I have not received any formal notice of protest from Brute Force, until I do this is mute subject".

Deemer's Dream Team advances to the PFOL Finals

Indianapolis - Tuesday's night semifinal game between Abusement Park and Deemer's Dream Team came down to wire. But in the end, Abusement Park failed to come up with the big shots down the stretch while Deemer's Dream hit shots when it counted. Deemer's Dream Team advances to the PFOL finals by hanging on to a 43-42 win.


Down by 1 point with less than a minute left, Jake Vernon found himself with the ball. Without even thinking about his current 0-14 shooting slump in the game, Vernon launched a three point shot over Dave Neff. Much like many of Vernon's previous shots, the ball didn't hit the rim. The only difference with this shot was it went through the rim and hit nothing but net. That shot ended up being the game winning shot.

Abusement Park had a couple of chances to either tie the game or take the lead late in the game. Marcus Hall missed a game tying free throw with 50 seconds left, Alex Montanago air balled a wide open 3-pointer with 18 seconds left, and Dave Neff misses a running layup at the buzzer.

Deemer's Dream will have it's hands full when they face the high powered offense of Brute Force who led the league in team scoring and put up 81 points last week. "43 points? Please, we had 43 at halftime in our last game. They better figure out a way to score more points or else it's gonna get ugly quick", said Jason McGuinness.

McAlister's Deli Game Summary

Brute Force and Front Office Legends were missing 2 of their top players. Simpson for Brute Force and Sullivan for the Front Office Legends. Despite missing 2 of the top scorers, the team put up huge offensive numbers in the first semi final game of the PFOL 2 playoffs.

Brute Force used a combination of speed, "brute force" and timely defense to run the Front Office Legends off the court in a 81-69 blowout. The final score does not indicate how lopsided this match up was.

Alan Mowrey got Brute Force off to a fast start by hitting two 3 pointers. Mowrey finished with a career high 36 points and 7 rebounds. Player of the week Sam Elmore had a break out game with 10 points and 20 rebounds.

Front Office Legends commitment to a Phoenix Suns style offense played right into the hands of Brute Force. "We prefer to run and gun but we can play any style you want, we can run with you or if you want to bang we'll bang with you" said Sam Elmore.

Troy Brokl lead Front Office Legends with 25 points and 13 rebounds.

Week 5

The regular season of PFOL 2 ended Tuesday with Brute Force dismantling Front Office Legends 81-60. With the win Brute Force shares the best record in the league with Abusement Park. Abusement Park takes the league title however, due to a head to head tie breaker.

5 of the 6 players for Brute Force scored in double figures on Tuesday. Jon Rangel led the way with 17 points and 20 rebounds. Front Office Legends fell to 2-2 on the season and will be the #3 seed as they will be matched up against the same Brute Force team who claims the #2 seed.

“We are extremely confident against them”, said Jon “Manu” Rangel. “We feel like if we didn’t screw around in the first half we could have put 100 on them - they can't stop us".

While the regular season has end, the playoff matchups are not set yet. That is because next week McAlister’s Deli and Deemer’s Dream Team will meet in a one game playoff to determine which team will be the #4 seed in the playoffs.

“Vernon wanted it and now he’s going to get it. I guarantee at least a 20 point victory,” said Edmound Elzy.

Playoff Scenarios

After a 4 week break (scheduling conflicts) PFOL returns Tuesday for the last week of the regular season.

Here are the possible playoff scenarios:


If McAlister’s Deli (1-2) wins tomorrow, they make the playoffs as the #4 seed and Deemer’s Dream Team (1-3) is eliminated. If McAlister’s Deli loses, they are eliminated and Deemer’s Dream Team will be the #4 seed due to a head to head tie breaker.

If Front Office Legends (2-1) beats Brute Force (2-1), they will be the #1 seed overall. If Brute Force wins and Abusement Park (2-1) loses, they will be the #1 seed.

If both Brute Force and Abusment Park both win, then Abusment Park would be the #1 seed due to a head to head tie breaker.

If both Front Office Legends and Abusement Park win, Front Office Legends would be the #1 seed due to a head to head tie breaker.
